The story revolves around Mu Wan Yao, the legitimate daughter of the imperial family, who refuses to be controlled by fate. After enduring the humiliation of a political marriage, she crosses paths with Yan Shang, a brilliant but impoverished scholar, in Lingnan. From there, both enter the complex political landscape of the capital. Initially at odds and testing each other, the two eventually reconcile and become clear-headed and powerful allies.
